Build support around ability and dignity
Record the parent’s ordinary meals, mobility, social activities, appointments and preferred ways of doing things. Avoid replacing tasks they can safely continue and value doing.
Use practical support to reduce risk and fatigue, not to remove control. Any personal-care assistance should be discussed openly and matched to demonstrated experience.
Set a clear family oversight plan
Name the family contact for ordinary decisions and a backup for urgent situations. Write the signs that require a call, along with clinician and emergency contacts.
Agree on update frequency with the parent. Constant reporting can undermine privacy; no reporting can leave important changes unnoticed.
