Measure the real childcare load
Map waking, meals, school or nursery, naps, bathing, play, homework and handovers. Note the periods requiring direct supervision rather than assuming childcare can happen beside every household task.
If supervision fills most of the day, a child-centred role is more honest. If childcare occurs in defined blocks alongside manageable household work, a mixed role may fit.
Write priorities before interviewing
State which duties stop when a child needs attention, who makes decisions and how parents receive updates. Include emergency contacts and any safety rules.
Ask candidates for examples from children of similar ages. The job title matters less than whether the written scope and evidence agree.
